POST ROAD

In case you missed it on the Rural Character page...
The NK Town Council has chosen to put the $3 million that it would take to move all of the Post Road phone poles off of the sidewalks... into a fund to build a $10 million recreation center. NK paid National Grid (2016/2017) to do a study to see what this would cost. The $3 million could come from the $11 million American Rescue Plan Act, money given to North Kingstown, but the TC has chosen to not move forward with the pole project, and to instead earmark this money as 'seed money' for the $10 million rec center (that has not been voted on by the tax payers). The Post Road merchants have clearly stated that the biggest impediments to their businesses are both the phone poles and the NG easements.

An excerpt: "The Town, working with neighboring communities, has entered into an agreement to purchase the streetlights in the community. The Town is planning to convert these streetlights to LED, with the expectation that there will be a significant reduction in energy use." SEE ANY??

"I walk and it’s a tough walk for sure & dangerous as bad curbs, loose sand and gravel, trash, weeds, poles, and lights. Ugggg!!! It’s 2022...WTH NK!!"
"Is this a joke!? Here is a tip...don't walk it in the rain!"
"Walk on it...hell I don't feel safe riding in a car on Post Rd anymore!!"

(TC President Greg Mancini)

There was a $20 million budget surplus, but nothing for the Post Rd. See: https://municipalfinance.ri.gov/sites/g/files/xkgbur546/files/documents/data/audits/2020/North-Kingstown-2020-Audit.pdf
